THE BEAUTY OF BREASTFEEDING
Breastfeeding not only creates a bond between mother and child, but it provides an abundance of nutrients such as calcium, iron, zinc, DHA and taurine; hormones and maternal growth factors to help with the maturing of the baby’s gastrointestinal tract and provides specific and non-specific immune factors to help protect the baby from infection!
Breastfeeding also benefits the mother in many ways -
- It is a form of contraception as menses cease during lactation
- Breastfeeding mothers tend to lose weight more easily
- The suckling of the baby can prompt the uterus to contract, reducing blood flow after birth
- Feel-good hormones are produced during breastfeeding
